There is nothing WRONG with the Rockville HS Cluster.(actually the ONLY School in Mont. Cty. last year for SAT scores to increase Rockville HS that is) Richard Montgomery CLUSTER will soon be under 40% caucasian. Twinbrook AREA goes to RM. Probably imho the WORST part of Rockville. Messy Yards etc. you can barely drive thru side streets with all the cars parked on the road.

My $.02, just plan to rent not far from your workplaces the first year, you will learn a lot about the area and the most important things to you will come into focus, like how much of a commute are you really willing to take and would you rather have a tiny yard, or a place that is not detached, or something that isn't a fixer-upper.
Commute issues here are huge. I live just a few miles from my work and have a 30-minute commute. To live a little further out, I'd be going to 45-60" or more.

Help the OP get over the sticker shock - would you mind saying how MUCH your rent is?

When I lived in Twinbrook (Stillwell Road and Dean Drive) - rent was over $1000.00 - 7 years ago

There are nice Single Family homes in Montgomery Village, Germantown, and Gaithersburg that are peeking below the 500 K price. My wife and I are in a similar situation, with similar income & price range. I suspect that as winter comes on, prices may fall even more, maybe closer to your price range.

I'm not sure about prices in Olney, but I've heard its a nice area to live.

There's also some nice, older (built in 40s or 50s), single family homes in areas such as Silver Spring or Kensington that may be getting close to your price range. They have a lot of charm and character, but may also have the typical problems associated with older homes.

In this part of Md, there's areas you probably want to avoid. If you feel suspicious of the area, I recommend checking the area out at night and get a feel for it.
