Department of Motor Vehicles is what is truely stands for. Saying it means DC, Maryland and Virginia is not creative at all. In my opinion, of course.

He called it a local acronym because folks from here have started using DMV to refer to the DC Metro area, DC, MD, and VA.

Well judging by how slow it goes, you'd think there were dinosaurs making violins in there. The workers have to keep violin parts coming in and feed and take care of the dinosaurs, so the Department of Motor Vehicles part plays second fiddle.
