Maryland under the Dems is becoming an oppressive tax regime with declining returns.

Taxes on DC Families Remain Lowest in the Region | DC Fiscal Policy Institute

Quote:
Taxes paid by DC residents are lower than taxes for Montgomery County and Prince George’s County residents for all incomes and family types included in this analysis. For example, taxes in DC for a single resident earning $200,000 are 7 percent lower than in Montgomery County, while DC taxes are 48 percent lower than in Prince George’s County for a married couple with two children earning $100,000

It's more dollars and cents than being an oppressive regime. People keep forgetting that PG has an anemic business tax revenue. D.C has more jobs per square mile than PG. That's more revenue from jobs per square mile. And more people come to work in D.C. that lives in D.C. In addition, D.C. is not that big in terms of square miles and population. There's more money to spread around. Let's not also forget that D.C. enjoys help from so many government services such as park, capitol park police and secret service personnel, etc. The Feb maintains most of the buildings downtown. Let's not even talk about revenues from tourism as the most visited city in the country. Add all that up and of course you don't have to tax your residents as much.

Montgomery County enjoys a healthy bio-science industry. PG has nothing to offset the tax it has to charge its residences. So, it's not so much an oppressive regime as it is a lack of revenue sources. That's why if you live in PG you HAVE to press for more jobs and businesses to come to the county. The NIMBYS fight against new development because they don't see the connection. They fear traffic and the loss of a few trees more than higher taxes and a horrific lack of amenities. They'd rather spend gas and pollute the air driving to Montgomery County and D.C. to work, shop, and eat rather than walking or taking a short bus ride in their own county.

Well PG is just bad but in MoCo that money goes to a lot of good stuff, namely the schools. Yeah you don't pay as much tax in DC but you don't get as much for your tax money either. Not to mention I haven't heard of any MoCo councilmen using public dollars to buy 'loaded' Navigators.

This is true at least MoCo gets something for their money. In PG all we get are cops to keep up with the crime rate.

Looks like PG County spends a fair mount of money on it's schools too. Even more than Virginia which boasts the nation's top high school. Throwing money at education isn't always the answer.

Douglas said. Both Montgomery County and Prince George's County spent more than the state average. Montgomery County spent $15,002 per pupil in 2007-2008, while Prince George's County spent $13,541. Virginia ranked 17th in the nation, spending an average of $10,659 per pupil in 2007-2008. The national average for per-student spending was $10,259.

When attempting to attract commercial development PG suffers from its negative image from crime, to schools to the "pay to play" reputation to the old backward redneck County label (which was true).

This is interesting. Here in CA the average spent per pupil is $8452

I'm sure that numbers going lower in the next year with the new budget. It's a shame.

Not to defend the bad politicians in Md, but DC has a massive budget deficit. PG and MoCO each have a lot more residents than DC, and tons less business.

No just county executives who have to have their own security detail and 65k bathrooms. Yepmoco doesn't waste tax payer money alright.

Oh and bs on the schools too unless your zoned for Richard Montgomery. How's Rockville or Macgruder? Or how about all the good single folks that pay al those big taxes. I'm sure they are reaping the benefits of those great Montgomery county schools.
