Take a look at this:

Michigan, if you were under 16, you weren't allowed to be out after midnight. It's been that way a long time too, as I left that state a long time ago. Other days had stronger, earlier curfews, 'devils' night' in particular which was always a Michigan destroy your city tradition.

Not sure about other states....but recall a COPS episode...there was a local white teen breaking curfew in Florida, I believe...driving a lawn mower home....lol. It was actually stolen.

It'll be interesting reading the debate on this thread. Sounds like something that isn't common out Maryland way? (EDIT: I just read it was in place already in PG County and DC).

It's a stupid idea but it really pisses me off that people think it's the government's responsibility to give teenagers stuff to do. You're a PARENT, raise your kids properly. Bored people don't commit crimes, lord knows there were plenty of times in high school when my friends and I were bored but we didn't decide to go trollin' around town beating people up. "The government should give the kids this and that" have some god damn self sufficiency and responsibility.

And likewise, sometimes we'd walk to 7-Eleven at 1AM and the worst thing we did was smoke cigarettes. It would have been pretty lame to not be able to go out and get some chips and energy drinks, all because the County wants to do something weak so they can pretend they're "doing something" about crime. Instead of having police enforce a curfew, have them patrol trouble areas, arrest anybody being deviant, and punish them to the fullest extent of the law.

The thing is, this is Montgomery County, one of the wealthiest, safest and best educated county is the nation (or at least it's well known for that), so we can't compare MoCo to PG or DC.

That seems overrated. I live in Gaithersburg and it seems like many of the people around us are low income minority. I see wealthy areas around Bethesda and Potomac but that does not encompass a huge area of the county.

I'm all for a curfew. 99% of the crime around my area happens between 11pm-5am.

But if you look at the income statistics, Montgomery County is usually among the top 5 in the nation. Anyways, do you have the statistics to prove that most of the crime occurs between 11-5? I want to make this thread a debate thread of some sort, to see what your views and points are. The councilmembers will start voting tomorrow.

Not in the top 5 anymore...has moved down to 13 and is headed south! Check current stats, you are living in the past... I live in SIlver Spring, and I am mostly surrounded by lower income residents as well. Many of whom just let their kids run wild--these kids in my neighborhood seem don't seem to be causing any problems, however. The kids I see in downtown SS are another matter...

Nothing wrong w/a curfew. When I grew up things and kids were different. Now days the parents have no control of the kids because of the way they were raised. Too much free time for the kids and not enough for the parents to raise them properly! We used to hang out ,,,but not past 10:00 on the weekdays and 11:00 on the weekends. There are two different kind of kids.... the daytime and the night....sad part is...the night time ones are the ones out for trouble now.... CURFEW....HELL YES,,,, good start to stop alot of the gang related crap!
