Of someone with a weapon, drawing down on a police officer? Correct, I have never fit that description.

Sorry, but that's not completely accurate. The Fort Washington 20744 mailing-address also includes: Rosecroft Raceway, the many various apartments and townhouses along Brinkley Road, Prophecy townhomes, Rosecroft Park and Apple Grove along Bock Road, the National Church of God, St. Ignatius RC, and St. Paul's AME, the Tucker Road pool, golf course and ice rink. Looking in an ADC Map Book you will see that the 20744 zip-code technically extends north inside the Beltway, up to the corner of St. Barnabas and Wheeler Road (although no one actually lives right there). Oddly, even Oxon Hill Middle School has a Fort Washington address.

A history lesson for you: the reason the dividing line was originally drawn where it is between Oxon Hill and Fort Washington, was that back about 1980 when the U.S. postal service first created the designation "Fort Washington", they thought mail-sorting would be easier if they just separated off all the territory that had previously been Oxon Hill zip code 20021 (now 20745) and let that remain as "Oxon Hill" and then take all the zip code 20022 (now 20744) territory and designate that "Fort Washington". People have been confused ever since.

I'm glad you copied that information over from wikipedia which I've read several times already. If you want to be technical, yes there are places closer, but the original point that I was making was Fort Washington never starts at the Beltway. When you get to Brinkley Road and you go pass the Zip In, you are in Oxon Hill. When you go through Apple Grove and go pass Saint Barnabas Road on Bock Road, you enter Oxon Hill before you get anywhere close to 95. The Wendy's, McDonald's, 7-Eleven, and all those other places on Oxon Hill Road are all considered Oxon Hill and that is the only road you can take to get to 95 from Bock Road, Brinkley Road, or Tucker Road. Bottom line, you have to get into Oxon Hill before you reach 95. There is no way possible to get on the Beltway from Fort Washington.

As far as your assertion that Fort Washington extends up to the corner of Saint Barnabas and Wheeler Road, that is absolutely wrong. Fort Washington never cross St. Barnabas Road. It is east of Saint Barnabas Road over by Prophecy and goes along Brinkley Road, but it never extends pass the Beltway. If you do a google search you will see that the area pass the Beltway is considered Oxon Hill along Saint Barnabas Road and all the businesses have Oxon Hill addresses. As a matter of fact the neighborhood on the corner of Wheeler and St Barnabas is Barnaby Manor and is a well known subdivision in Oxon Hill.

Are you talking murder-wise along the topic of this thread? It's certain,y much safer than what I've read about Orlando.

I'm sorry, meatkins, but you can look at an ADC Map Book of PGC (available at all public libraries) and see for yourself that the wide gray-shaded line on the page defining the boundaries of zip 20744, indeed extends up to the south side of the corner of St. Barnabas and Wheeler (not that anyone even lives on that side of the road - it's rather undeveloped on that side).

Just like how the Waldorf zip-code includes several miles along the south side of Route 373 Accokeek Road in PG County, but no one lives there but a handful of farmers, so it hardly matters.

Rosecroft Raceway and St. Ignatius Church next-door are in the Fort Wash. zip code, and in news media articles they are always referred to as Fort Wash. The beltway on-ramp is very close to there, as you know.

For postal purposes the borderline between 20745 and 20744 runs up the middle of Livingston Road, giving Murray Hills, St. Columba Church and the police and fire stations Fort Wash. mailing addresses, while Southlawn homes on the other side, along with the high school, all have Oxon Hill mailing address. The borderline then turns east at St. Paul AME, placing that church and Prophecy townhomes and Nat. Church of God in Fort Wash. zip. You can verify all this by the gray-shaded line on the ADC Map book.

Thanks anyway Meatkins, for all your many posts on this forum. I have learned a lot of things from your valuable insights.

Good map. I always wonder about murder numbers, how many are random acts and how many are personal issues.

It makes a big difference to me if the murders happened because someone was wearing the wrong colors walking downtown, or if it was a husband wife cheating issue, or something like that, you know?

That's a good point and something I thought about with Fort Washington. Besides the 7 Eleven robbery and the killing at Martini's, all of these murders were domestic disputes. Even when you look at the ones in places like Bowie and Glenn Dale, those were murders that happened at people residence that were done by people who didn't live anywhere near them. It seems as though a lot of these are caused by bringing the wrong people to your home. I usually keep my friends list very short and the people I invite to my home even shorter. This is a good example of why.
