We live in Bethesda, MD and we will be moving overseas soon. Our insurance company that insures our home just told us they can not insure us since we will be out of the country. I have found this suprising since tons of Americans move in and out of the country every year. Do you have idea which insurance company can insure our home even we are overseas. Thank you...

Each insurance company's policies can vary. The home will be vacant or rented out or what? You will be overseas temporarily for a job or moving permanently? These things can make a difference. When I was in the Foreign Service and worked overseas, USAA insured my Silver Spring townhome (landlord insurance), which I rented out. USAA is mainly for military and ex-military families, but I qualified for being in the Foreign Service. You may have to call several companies to see who can insure you in your particular sitaution. If someone says they can't insure you, ask if they know who could.

Call Access Insurance in Gaithersburg (301-987-0040) and ask for Lisa. They're a brokerage and can set you up. It's going to be more expensive since the property is vacant, but they can find a company that works and will give you a good rate.
