Ok, so this post includes one of my #1 all time pet peeves: the idea that being in college is a free pass to act like a complete and total idiot. Every time I hear that, I get an image of one of the cleaning ladies at my freshman dorm, on her hands and knees, scrubbing someone else's vomit on Monday morning, because God forbid someone interrupt the fun of "college" to clean up his own vomit. To answer the question, yes, I went to college. I managed to have fun without getting blind-drunk (or drunk at all, actually) or swimming in any public fountains (which, when you really think about it, is just, you know, eww). The idea that being in college is an excuse to release your id every time you get drunk is just so loathsome to me, and I think it reflects an entitled attitude of "I don't have to behave like a respectable human because, you know, I'm in college, and it's part of my 'experience.'"

And no, no one here blamed the victim. Many just pointed out that when you are stupid, bad things happen to you. More importantly, no one's sympathy or lack thereof is going to change the fact that the young lady was assaulted, and that if she had been more careful, it probably wouldn't have happened to her.

I'm not defending it, all I said was that several of the posters here don't seem to be familiar with the fact that this type of stuff happens every single day and goes unreported. My other point is that some posters here don't seem to be familiar with the campus, which is a shame considering it is probably one of the most accessible flagship state schools in the country.

I didn't say that anyone here blamed the victim. And bad things can also happen to you even if you are acting smart.

There's no way to prove this. It could have just as easily happened (and it does happen) if the girl was fully dressed and sober.

The ultimate point that I was trying to make with my earlier post is that I am disappointed that people are acting so shocked and angry that something like this could happen. This type of stuff and much much worse happens all the time, and even if it mostly goes unreported, people should know that it occurs. The awareness is definitely out there, and if people are surprised this happened they are living under a rock and need to get more involved in outreach of the issue.

I'm of this opinion.

Sure, CP could be much better than it is, but once again you prove yourself to be ignorant and prejudiced. Hopefully in ten years, it'll be the top-ten college town that Loh is hoping to make it.

With those statements, you're the one being a troll. As for the first statement, you are literally just wrong. If I remember correctly, you once admitted that you were very biased against the school and that you simply did not like it, regardless of actual facts regarding crime and life on- and off-campus.

Why is that even relevant? Does that mean it's okay and that it's the smart thing to do? It does sound like you're defending it. It comes down to do you think this was stupid or not. Forget the fact that it happens all the time because that means nothing. People also leave their banks with money in their hands as they are walking out into a bad area, so just because they don't get robbed every time means there's nothing wrong?

I am clearly doing the opposite of defending it. Read the rest of my post.

Actually, the fact that it happens all the time is extremely important. Anyone on this thread acting shocked that such a thing could happen isn't living in reality. This is a huge, wide-spread problem on college campuses across the country and not enough is being done to address it.

You clearly did not understand what I was trying to say. I am saying the opposite of what you think I am. Sorry if I wasn't clear originally.

I'm sorry if I misunderstood you. Your post came off if you were saying that acting this way was normal, but something happening to them wasn't. Again, I apologize for misinterpreting your point.

No problem, and sorry if I came across as rude. I just get frustrated by some of the things I see people post on this forum.

Ok guys.

First thing, PhenomenalAJ doesn't know what he is talking about when it comes to UMCP. There is no need to go any further than that and we can all agree on that.

Second, now don't get me wrong, I am not an expert on crimes but from reading the story a whole lot of "crime" happened that night. First there is the stealing of personal property, and the butt grab. But, why is everyone glossing over the fact that they were swimming in a fountain in their underwear while presumably drunk? I somehow doubt these were Seniors that were of legal drinking age doing stupid stuff, but I digress. Also, walking around in your underwear isn't consider some form of indecent exposure? let alone swimming in a fountain some sort of crime was committed there too right? I mean if i jump in the fountain in front of my job and start swimming in it, I'm pretty sure the Arlington county police would have me cuffed in like 5 minutes. Please correct me if I am wrong.
