Can you prove that Building a 12-16 Lane I-95 and I-270 from Maryland into DC would cause Air Pollution, Unwanted Sprawl, Homelessness, Water Pollution, Endanger Animal Species, Racial Discrimination, Forrest Fires, Endanger Eagles Nests, and cause 24/7 traffic stalls????????

My siblings and I were raised in a "children should be seen and not heard" atmosphere which meant we had to be on our best behavior at all times. My mother and father were adamant about school attendance and performance. I had to watch my step outside of school as well.
When I lived in south Texas the schools employed corporal punishment (spanking) for students who were unruly. Suspension/expulsion were for the very worst and suspension was only used once or twice before being expelled. I was paddled a few times and then got my a$$ kicked when I got home; that was how parents raised their kids in the 60s. All of my friends down there can tell you the same thing. I was suspended once in HS because my hair was too long on the first day of school but that was a good laugh at the house. My dad was displeased with the school more than with me. If I was ever suspended because of ill behavior I might as well have left home at a very early age. Was anyone else raised by a military drill instructor?
From what I have seen in schools, a very liberal policy has taken the ability from the school administration/staff to correct behavioral problems as they happen which forces the schools to turn a blind eye towards the problems. Parents aren't going to correct the problem, as evidenced, and the kids grow up to be great people. I saw it happen in my daughter's school down in Charles county. She lived with her mom who didn't supervise any of her homework or her school attendance. Her mother is nuts and my daughter learned she could claim to suffer from the same imaginary mental disorders so she could skip her way through school. I had no legal rights in it. She is a 25 year old unwed mother of two kids now and her life is not getting better. She might as well be on Jerry Springer.
I put most of it on a national public education stance that does not have checks and balances for the sake of the students. I have no idea what the federal government agenda is concerning public schools but it is sorely lacking. They performed much better when the individual states oversaw them. Public school has become little more than free daycare and some of them have free daycare for students who have children.
This is a nationwide problem and not just in PGC.
Your upbringing sounds very similar to my upbringing except without the spankings, our parents rarely spanked us and both of my parents are from Ghana. In fact I can't even think of a time my father spanked me. However there were clears rules of engagement. One rule was adults were always right until they were clearly wrong. My mom or dad would never dream of going to school to question a teacher's account of their kids' behavior and certainly not in front of us.

If I wanted to act up and school and do what some of my peers were doing at the time I might as well pack up and leave because I wasn't staying there. I think nowadays you can't kick out your kids. The schools are far too liberal and believe it or not they want to make them even more so.

This is a great discussion that perhaps could use another thread. Let's respect the OP and keep the focus on MG and gambling news. I know I have been guilty of this but have started to start new threads based on where the discussion was turning. UrbanScholar, do you agree?

Believe me...There weren't a lot of spankings as I wised up and learned to keep my nose clean after. I wanted to point out that the social environment in this country, especially that in the schools, was way different than it is today. Most students who perform poorly suffer because of lack of discipline at home which leads to problems at school.
How many kids come around and want to mow your yard, rake your leaves or shovel your walk these days? I can't really count them on one hand. Most kids have everything handed to them and don't need to earn a few bucks for the things they want. I would consider that somewhat spoiled. Most spoiled kids are undisciplined kids.
My cousins lived in a country club community in the Kansas City area. They were some spoiled brats and were unruly to boot. My father could only take so much of them. They are all well off today and spoil their kids worse than they were spoiled. It isn't pretty.

Definitely (although I was an equal culprit in the derailment)

Not to be out done, MGM has contributed additional money towards advocacy and outreach for November's election. It will be interesting to see the numbers from both sides after all is said and done.

It sure would be nice if other industries fought over Maryland, and more specifically, PG county this way.

Maybe if the Liberal Democrats in the state stop being so anti-business, MD can attract more industries.

I am a liberal democrat but you have a point with MD politicians and their general perception on business. I believe that opinion is different from MD citizens since most want businesses in MD.
