I hope it doesn't pass. I don't live too far from the Harbor and I worry about it bringing more crime to the area along with the issues that come from people who have gambling addiction. I remember going into a casino in Arizona and seeing this lady with two slot machine levers in her hand and looking intently into the machine with a look of despair. I was at the slot machine next to her and she looked at me like she would cut me if I got anywhere near her machine, lol. It was like she was under a spell or something.

Not to mention most of the jobs this casino will bring will probably be low paid jobs so bringing in a casino might actually make the area worse. I wish PG County could attract other types of venues instead of one that might create a bunch of issues for the area.

Well it looks like jobs won't be coming to PG County after all, if I'm to believe some of these polls.

It's pretty close but some of the polls have included responses from DC and VA voters which is puzzling to me

I gamble enough while at the grocery store, gas station, paying bills and anywhere else I have to give someone cash for goods in exchange. Who has money to lose?
Dude, tons of people go to AC and also Charlestown, and other venues. People still gamble, a lot, just not as much in a recession as they did back in early 2000's. They also go to AC for the beach in summer...

Who are you to tell me where to go. I don't want a bunch of low paid jobs in my county, all that is going to do is attract the wrong type of people. We should be able to attract IT, Government, and other types of businesses that pay people middle class wages.

Casino's mostly hire people to make $10-12 an hour. Just who in the heck do you think are attracted to those types of jobs??? And then you'll be whining and *itching about how the casino has ruined PG County. Maybe you don't live in this part of PG county, BUT I DO! And I care about the people are moving in next to me, sorry if you don't.

And for the record, they tried to pull this same mess in Atlanta and people were outraged and told them to take that mess elsewhere. People know Casino's bring crime and a bunch of other issues.

I was going to hold my tongue concerning your other post which is why I just used emoticons. but now you forced my hand.

First, the above statement is a very insensitive and ignorant one. While this county could use more higher skill jobs, you completely write off younger age workers such as high school and college students as the "wrong type of people." They are the very people who fill those low paid jobs. None of us here started making 50K+ straight out of high school. I started out as a stock clerk at a drug store. I made $7/hr. In addition, there are people that have retired that may need to re-enter the work force because their retirements were wiped out from the recession. These people aren't the "wrong types" that you are so concerned about. These jobs help get people off of welfare, off of unemployment, and off the streets. Unless you like unemployed people hanging around your neighborhood with nothing to do but cause trouble.

Second, what makes you think that PG has thousands of high-skilled workers ready for the market? Sorry to burst your bubble, but there are not a lot of residents qualified to fill these so called high skilled positions you so desire. Let's work on the school system first before we start complaining about what types of jobs we want.

Third, everyone was so ready to embrace Disney. What types of jobs do you think Disney offered? What about Wegmans? FedEX Field? The Gaylord? They offer the same types of jobs that the casino will offer. Yet no one complained about those jobs that were created.

Lastly, casino jobs are no slouch. I'm not sure where you got your statistics. But consider the following:
It's not just about salary, but also health benefits as well. I'm sure you have "made it" in life. But please consider those who need to enter the workforce. They need somewhere to build their CV. It won't always be a corner office. Casinos create jobs and revenue for local businesses who will then hire more people. You can't write off those who need those jobs just because you think the jobs they are qualified for are beneath you or this county. I'm sure those without jobs will probably laugh at your statement.

You are so misinformed. First of all, a hotel/casino will not ruin what the lottery and horse racing already has. Gambling is not and never has been a major crime issue. Most crime, at least in these parts, comes from drugs, gangs, and unemployed teens with nothing to do but cause trouble. Crimes from gambling or addicts probably ranks near last. If you care about those who live around you, perhaps you would give them a little more credit. I give them more credit that they won't all of a sudden become desperate gambling addicts that strike fear in their neighborhoods. I'm not sure about the south. But I think people here have just a little more self control. Things are a tad better here than in the rest of the country job-wise. Yes, it could be better, but adding a casino won't cause people to loose their minds. I'm not sure where people get this fear from. We already have 4 casinos within driving distance, the lottery, keno, horse racing, the stock market, scratch tickets, football pools, etc. And yet, gambling addiction is not an epidemic. Adding a casino in NH is not all of a sudden going to cause the numbers of addicts to increase astronomically.

In addition, you forget that visitors to the casino won't all be from PG. You'll have visitors that come from all over the region, country, and world. What makes you think they'll move to YOUR neighborhood and cause you trouble?

The Washington area is not Atlanta. This is not the south. Please don't compare the two. What you feel Atlanta couldn't handle, I'm sure we can do a better job up here. If you choose to respond, please respond with specifics and not generalizations. You use the word "issues" but don't elaborate.

First of all can high school students even be hired to work in a casino ? I doubt this casino is going to have a flock of high school students working there. My husband works with low income people and in criminal rehab in PG county and these are exactly the types of jobs he steers people towards. Not all low income people are bad, but we have to be honest that lower income areas do usually have the most crime and the most problems. People already look at PG County like it's an embarrassment to the area.

If we had more high paying jobs then we could attract a better level of people. We don't have highly educated people over here because most people want to live near their job. If I have an awesome paying job in Nova, why heck would I live in PG County. We need to make a push for other businesses to come here.

I had a co-worker who visited the casino in Anne Arundel and he left around 4am and said there were all kinds of sketchy people hanging out in the parking lot, so I do believe this casino is going to bring more issues for this area. If you want facts, here is an article on a study that says casino's do increase crime:

Study: Casinos increase crime - Casinos - Hesperia Star - The Star of the West

So where exactly are your facts??? All you have stated are opinions.
