My wife and I are looking for a new doctor. Unfortunately, it is getting increasingly difficult to see one inside of three weeks just for basic stuff. Does anyone know of any doctors who are less "Busy?" I'm not asking to be able to see them next day. But a $100 co-pay at urgent care is ridiculous. Anyone have a doctor that can get them in within 10 days on a consistent basis?

Just curious as I've seen this sort of post before...
Does your plan not have a provider list you are limited to?
Or are you planning to go 'ala carte' in this?

I'm guessing he has a PPO with a big company like Cigna or Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

When I was last in Maryland, the doctors we went to were all starting to use PA's, physician assistants who can prescribe and do routine exams. Maybe you could look for a physician group who use their PA's effectively. For example, I used to go to Family Physicians on Prosperity Road off Cherry Hill Road, Silver Spring. They were affiliated with the Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park.

Sounds like a good idea. Thanks. I'll look into that.

I got the same, check out the directory on their website. That's how I've gotten all my doctors for me and my family.

Yes, but can you find out which ones have shorter schedule times? Lately with the doctors I've been seeing, it takes 6 weeks just to get a physical in.

That was typical of the doctors I saw also. They blocked the full physical for certain days, and left the rest of the time for more immediate problems. I have also had a PA do a full physical.

There is a rating service on vitals.com which does ask about scheduling times. Here's an example from the guy I went to: http://www.vitals.com/doctors/Dr_Adolph_Johnson Otherwise, all I know of is telephoning the office. And if a doctor is not busy, it might be because he is new or there is something wrong.

Another alternative is "concierge medicine", where you pay a large fee for dedicated service.

That's crazy. Never heard of that. I also concur with goldenage1, vitals.com is the best source for that issue. I usually look them up on the BCBS website and then go on vitals to see how they handle their patients. Good luck.
