This is what PG has to fix in order to attract top talent. Perception. If people fear for their lives, that's not good.

The location, not far from Andrews Air Force Base, also was not a selling point. The landscape is bare and, among employees, the area has a reputation as unsafe.

“In Camp Springs, there were incidents of crime,” said Luis Cano, a member of NOAA’s IT staff. “You wouldn’t go for a walk alone out there. If you do that in Camp Springs, you take your life into your hands.”

Such concerns made it harder to recruit people to the agency.

“It’s hard to attract world-class researchers to what, frankly, looks like a used-car lot,” said Jeff Stehr, a University of Maryland scientist and administrator who has been working to build a relationship between the university and its new neighbor.

I wouldn't say it was so bad that you had to fear for your life. lol. It does need to be improved in general. That building is crap but that is NOAA fault.

I used to work in that building. The issue is not necessarily crime, it's the fact that there is nothing around there. The guy who stated that is grossly exaggerating things. People say things like that at my job, but where I work (in Suitland), is way more dangerous. When I did work in the NOAA building, we had to drive just about anywhere just to get lunch. The only restaurants nearby were Red Lobster and Subway, which is located inside a gas station. How stupid is it to have your job located next to the metro station, only to have to rely on someone driving just to do some basic things during your lunch break?

Unfortunately, M-Square will force them to do the same thing. Granted, they will have a shorter trip and more options. But there is no retail in the research park.

I've heard the Suitland Fed Center is like a giant fortress.

It is. Gym, a few shops to eat at, credit union, daycare, why would you need to leave?

Yup that's what I've been saying. You can have all the stats in the world but if folks perceive an area to be crime ridden with poor schools they'll simply look elsewhere. Good luck getting top companies to come here as well.

Where in Camp Springs is the NOAA bldg? I live in camp Springs, east of Rt 5, and it isn't the way the article reads on this side. I think some people like to embellish a bit.

At the corner of Auth Road and Auth Place. It says "NOAA Science Center" on it and it's across from the Shell gas station.

It's not bad at all. I used to work in that building, you never see anyone out there, because there was nothing really there but some car dealerships. It's a ridiculous comment to make. Now if you are talking about Auth Road into the neighborhoods, that's a different story.

Embellish about life in Prince George's? Never!

That same can be said about a number of places in the county, but times are slowly changing.
