Gazette.Net: Principals’ union files $100M lawsuit against Prince George’s school board, former superintendent

Quote:
The union for Prince George's County school principals and administrators has filed a $100 million federal class action lawsuit against the county school board and former schools superintendent William Hite.

The Association of Supervisory and Administrative School Personnel, or ASASP, filed the suit Nov. 2, alleging that school administrators were fired or demoted under Hite due to age and race discrimination.
Something tells me this isn't the last time we will hear stories like this about our former superintendent.

Hmmmm. Now why do principles and administrators need a union? Come on. This is ridiculous. Take more money away from schools. Sure, that's the right thing to do. Selfish.

My question is how were the schools led by these administrators performing academically. Experience means nothing if you can't produce the results. I can sympathize with the plaintiff that the black male principals were being unfairly singled out by another black male, I have seen that before. However, their case may be difficult to prove if they were not exceptional in their performance and responsible to for creating above par/superior learning environments.

LOL so we are to believe a Black male superintendent discriminated against these principals because they were black males? I mean how do these people file these lawsuits with a straight face?

Is it possible that they were fired because they didn't do a good job?

Yeah I've never heard of them having unions too. Just ridiculous.

I don't think they have much of a chance to win this one. Like EdwardA and UrbanScholar mentioned, how do you prove this? They probably would stand more of a chance if they argued that women principals were being treated better. That's at least a little bit more believable.

If a black superintendent had different standards for evaluation, retention and discipline that showed disparate treatment of black principals, that could be discrimination, regardless of the superintendent's race. It can be harder to prove, but the presence of black folks doesn't necessarily negate the viability of a discrimination claim.

That being said, a lot of those jokers probably needed to go, black or white, man or woman. Hello, look at the state of the flippin' schools!

I never knw it was necessary for federal employees to form a union. When you think about the military and other positions in government, if any employee would be fairly treated, it would be government employees. What other government employye is part of a union? FBI? CIA? This is news to me.

Yes but they aren't that useful in my opinion because we are not allowed to strike. The moment you enter the government you sign an oath not to strike.

It's interesting because the union at my previous job was way more active than my new job but my new job has better benefits. The benefits you get seem to really depend on the agency and the culture there and not the union.
