Yeah, Hyattsville has a bad rap. I've posted on this extensively, but the City of Hyattsville is a lovely place to live.

There are unincorporated areas of Prince George's County that are assigned to the Hyattsville post office and thus they are called Hyattsville, but do not fall within the boundaries of the City of Hyattsville.

I have a husky and live in Gaithersburg right near the metro and I would not even consider commuting to SS everyday because 1) the ICC costs $6-8 per day depending on your travel time. 2) the area is generally congested and 3) there are many not-so-great drivers that cause the commute to be much worse than anticipated. One thing you can count on is not being able to reliably know your commute time for that distance due to the amount of accidents in this area. I would recommend the metro. That being said, heading north on 270 any time, except 3-630, is easy and brings you to a multitude of plazas; another plaza is almost completed where the new Wegman's is. I moved here from New York and had a hard time finding the right place, until I flew down and realized there are townhouses and apts everywhere...I mean everywhere. I pay $1544 for a 2 br plus a den 1425 sq ft apt.
