Last week we were back in Maryland on business. We went to Macoon's Pier House on the north waterfront of NH. The food was great. We specifically want crab, so DH got a Cobb salad with crab, and I got the crab bruschetta and Maryland crab soup. It was am early Wednesday lunch and it was not very crowded. The view of the water is great and we recommended visiting National Harbor to a few folks who had not been there.

Taxi drivers were picketing the Gaylord on Sunday. I actually support what they are protesting.

How was the foot traffic around NH? Have things gone back to normal following the whole water main break episode?

Taxi drivers are being told that they can't pick up passengers in NH because the Gaylord wants to provide their own shuttle service.

That's a shame. But, the difference between NH and the rest of the county is that NH is actually private property owned by the Peterson Companies. Just like when they tried to stop people from taking pictures in Downtown Silver Spring. People were up in arms. But in reality, DTSS is private property. Now, do they own the streets? I'm not sure. But, NH can have a dress code if they wanted. They probably wouldn't get many visitors. But it's sort of understood by the Peterson companies that it is good business to let peoples' experience at NH be a natural one as if NH is part of public space. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm not quite confident in that assessment.

I'm concerned with how this will impact DUI's.

I agree. But there are alternatives. For instance, there are plenty of hotel rooms available to sleep it off. But you're right, I wonder if they have considered this. Which has me thinking, is the ban just on cabbies waiting to pick people up as opposed to one being called? I imagine if one was called, they would be allowed to pick up that fare. And are they only banned from waiting at the Gaylord, which is what I heard, and not the entire NH property?

I was under the assumption it was just at the Gaylord Hotel

That may very well be true. Especially since they were allowed to picket while standing on the sidewalk outside the main entrance. Suggests that this isn't a Peterson policy.
