Taylor soon will share her cupcake culture with a new crowd when she opens her second Pretty Girl Cupcakery location at Tanger Outlets at National Harbor next week. The short answer is yes and you will see a lot of cities/counties around the DMV trying to become destination areas that can attract tourists, etc.

Default Aloft NH to become an over-flow space for the Gaylord

So I am guessing that it will be branded as an express version of the Gaylord and, based of a similar project, be called The Inn at National Harbor. I would rather have the Aloft but I guess its better than nothing.

Quote:
Ryman plans to re-brand the hotel, currently an Aloft Hotel, and to contract with Marriott to operate it in conjunction with Gaylord National, as an overflow hotel. The arrangement isn’t new for the company – Ryman Hospitality owns a 303-room overflow hotel adjacent to Gaylord Opryland called The Inn at Opryland.

Ryman Hospitality Properties buys hotel, land in D.C. area - Nashville Business Journal

They also mention the purchase of a half acre of land for purposes of developing a hotel or some other use. If it is a Hotel, I would curious to see its size since that is such a small lot size.

Here is some additional information on the profitability of Gaylord National, They will probably see significant gains when MGM opens

Quote:
Gaylord National RevPAR increased 4.6 percent to $172.91 in second quarter 2014 compared to second quarter 2013. The increase in RevPAR was driven by a 3.6 percentage point increase in occupancy to 79.5 percent resulting from an increase in corporate room nights. Total RevPAR increased 9.0 percent to $406.47 compared to second quarter 2013. Total revenue for the property increased 9.0 percent to $73.8 million compared to second quarter 2013. The increase in corporate room nights led to higher outside-the-room spending, specifically in banquets and outlets. Adjusted EBITDA improved 7.1 percent to $26.2 million in second quarter 2014 compared to second quarter 2013. Despite increased expenses in utilities and property taxes, Adjusted EBITDA margin for second quarter 2014 was 35.5 percent, which is relatively flat compared to second quarter 2013

Hmmmmm. Aloft is a brand of the Starwood hotel group. I wonder why they sold it.

MGM had their quarterly meeting and had some interesting points about their National Harbor Project. This transcript is from an investor site. To read the entire thing you will need to register but its free.

Quote:
On the development front, MGM National Harbor in Maryland has received all the necessary approvals, and we've actually begun construction there. We selected the Maryland-based Whiting-Turner as our general contractor for the project, and we've hired HKS as the design architect and Smith Group as the architect of record out of the D.C.

As you probably know, the mid-Atlantic market is driving and in finalizing our plans for National Harbor, we have recently increased the scope of the project, expanding the footprint from 2.8 million square feet to 3.3 million square feet.

In addition, we have modified our plans to create structure and flexibility to build out yet more incremental space on the second floor if demand in the future warrants that, and we think it will.

Based on these more detailed plans, our budget now is $1.2 billion, up from the $1 billion that we announced earlier and almost all of that is due to the increase in scope. We think this will be one of the most successful U.S. resorts outside of Las Vegas.
http://seekingalpha.com/article/2384...nscript?page=2

So now the project is officially over 1 billion dollars. Also, creating a build-out space is a smart move on their part. I figured that they would do it but its good to see them confirm it. I also heard that Cheesecake Factory is considering a site in the "restaurant row" being planned near Tanger. I know that doesn't do it for some but its good for that If they do come it will upgrade the type of chain restaurants that are actually on Oxon Hill Road. Personally I would like to see a Maggiano's and a Chik-Fila there. Anyone else have a wish list?
