Here's something to think about: were it not for the Federal presence here, MD and VA both would be PA south of the Mason-Dixon line. While governmental policies do share some blame for the business climate, and the fleeing of basic industries from MD, the reality is that started back in the late 1970's/early 1980's. The steel industry in Pittsburgh/Johnstown/eastern PA collapsed, why would it have remained viable in Baltimore with the same basic factory models? Same with coal, western low-sulfur coal replaced high-sulfur eastern coal. Car manufacturing moved to Mexico and Canada (pre-NAFTA, by the way. The motor in my 1984 Chevy was sourced from Brazil, my 1989 Plymouth was made in Mexico).

Glass bottle makers were busily developing plastics to replace the glass. They were building new glass factories in Spain, Venezuela and Egypt, though.

Lol, I figured that. Go visit Detroit and then come back to this thread. I think you will quickly see why your comparison makes little sense.

Whether I have been there or not is irrelevant. The only thing that should matter is the merit of my comparison, which is why I asked if there is something that I have listed that you disagree with please state what that is and why you disagree. You are pulling a red herring argument, you haven't been there therefore you don't know. Really? That's your basis of determining if I am right or wrong? There are people commenting about NoVa who either haven't been there or rarely have been there, does that mean what they have said is wrong?

Since you are more knowledgeable about this topic than most, please explain to us how the two places differ.

It's pretty relevant. I have been to Detroit quite a few times. Based on this thread I can tell you know nothing about Detroit. How can you compare PG to a city you obviously know nothing about. It's like comparing a lion to a house cat.

Okay so how about you stop deflecting and tell me what I said that was wrong. This is the second time to show how much I don't know. The ball is in your court.

So we went from you don't know what you're talking about to, I don't understand what you are saying?

If you were trying to figure that out, then how would you know I don't know what I am talking about??????

You obviously don't want to answer the question, so it's okay. I appreciate those who disagreed and gave a respectful rebuttal, but this right here is ridiculous.
