What is at that location now? Is it an empty lot, blight, or an existing building?

The latest step in the redevelopment of College Park will be a $110 million mixed-use development on property currently home to a Quality Inn and Plato’s Diner along U.S. Route 1.

The University of Maryland chose a collaboration between the Bozzuto Group and the newly formed Willard Retail Group to develop the property in partnership with the University of Maryland Foundation, which is slated to acquire the Quality Inn site at 7200 Baltimore Ave. in 2017.

In light of this article about the death of Office Parks/Buildings I wonder if this is a good idea?

M-Square was rezoned last year to be a mixed use development, not the suburban office park that was created for the area almost 20 years ago, before the University acquired most of the property there now. With the coming of the Purple line there is no reason why mixed use development, with a significant amount of office space, would not be successful there. The University is a major driver of future development in the county and this is where the University is sending its private sector partners.

I think being on the green line, purple line, Marc, and inside the beltway is a different dynamic than the struggling suburban office parks.

So it's going to be a mixed use housing development or an office space?
