I read on the Bethesda News Blog this week that Hamburger Hamlet, a Bethesda tradition since the 1973, is closing. This place was near Montgomery Mall.

It always seemed to be a popular family dining destination.

Can't compete with Five Guys and Bobby's Burger Palace I guess. Its not "hip" and exciting enough. It got lost in the background.

I'm not surprised. Too bad because they had good burgers.. but haven't been there in years because I generally prefer to just order a burger, eat it and leave instead of having to sit down and get served like I'm at a Gourmet restaurant or whatever. Maybe that's another reason why its closing. Burgers are supposed to be fast food. FAST is the key word.

The place seriously went downhill after Du-Pars took over. They even got rid of the garlic fries! I used to love it before that.

The food was terrible and not that clean inside....I was always surprised how it lasted this long but that said, I thought I read where Du Par is keeping it open. I hope they close it and add some good food service. The location is amazing...we deserve better

Dupar was trying to keep it going. I read an update on the Bethesda blog saying they closed up friday night:

Ever had the garlic fries at Gordon Biersch in Rockville? Highly recommended. Strong stuff.

It's just time for a change. However, I hope they don't go the chain store route. Like Panera, like I just saw in Bethesda taking over Mongolian Grill

The Panera is replacing BD's Mongolia BBQ, which is also a chain. List of locations:

I didnt know BD's Mongolia was a chain...it had a good run in Bethesda. Personally, I think that is a good location, Mongilia lasted 10 years or so, which is considered good for a restaurant.
