i'd go for it. i live in Alexandria too and i dislike NoVA also. New Carrollton is probably the area that gives you the most value while being safe in PG.

Yeah. I'm just like you. Alexandria City and Rosslyn are just about the only places I really care for in all of NOVA but it's too expensive to live in. I don't care for Fairfax County at all.

The apartments that are in walking distance of the metro are not a very nice area. I lived in them when I was a child- about 20 years ago, and they were not too bad, but were starting to go downhill. I've driven through that area many times since- and lived in New Carrollton almost my whole life. It's probably the worst part of New Carrollton(which is not a very large town), being so close to 450 and the beltway. I haven't been inside any in many years, but I do remember reading a lot of articles about them that stuck out to me since I used to live there. The neighborhoods of New Carrollton are much better, and I think that the apartments that are on Riverdale Rd are better than the ones right next to the metro. My great grandmother lived in an apartment off of Riverdale Rd for almost 30 years until 2001, and she never had a single problem, she had neighbors who looked out for her and her apartment was clean (no roaches) and decent sized. They even helped her move to a lower level when the stairs got to be to much for her.
