Hey all,

I currently work as a contractor at Indian Head in SOMD but live in La Plata. I have an appealing GS offer to work in Alexandria VA. The potential hours would be 0630-300. With that said, how realistic of a commute time am I looking at from La Plata to Alexandria Mon-Fri at those times? If I start work at 0630 I would likely be on the road around 0530 and then leaving Alexandria at 3pm.

I currently go to class in Alexandria in the evenings from 6-10pm and I head up from La Plata around 5pm and make it on time so it takes me roughly 1 hour. Would 1 hour be realistic to expect if driving in around 0530 AM or would I need to leave earlier? I haven't accepted the position yet, but I really would like to, I just don't know how insane the commute would be, even with the option to start at 0630 and be off by 3PM.

Thanks to anyone for any input! It will help me in making a decision.

If your report time is 0630 then you'll be on the road right before it starts to clog up. Try it some morning and see.

Yeah that's what I was thinking/hoping. I might have to take a day off of work at my current job to drive and give the ride a shot. I know when I do it for school in the evenings it takes roughly a hour, hopefully that would be similar if I am on the road at 0530 AM and reporting at 0630 like you mentioned.
