I am pretty new to the North Laurel (Whiskey Bottom and Route 1) area and looking for a place to have a few beers. Can anyone recommend some nice bars in the area ? I'm in my early 20's, looking for something local (I'd love walking distance, but not sure how much is around to walk to).

Most bars in the area you are in are local dives. Nothing good is in walking distance to you unless you like small, dark, no entertainment type places. I used to go to California Inn which is right at the intersection of Whiskey Bottom and Rte 1 (might have a new name). That was one of the larger places with live bands. That was years ago and I don't have a clue what it is like now. Other places you might try are Remingtons, which is on Rte 197 a mile or so past Walmart going toward Ft Meade. The Green Turtle at Laurel Lakes and Oliver's on Main Street both have good reputations. If you like local, kinda "working class" bars you can always slum it at Sportsman's Pub, Nuzbacks, Bottom of the Bay, and the Diner. Now don't take my word on any of these places, my party days ended a few years ago. I don't get out like I used to.

Yup- and if you like pool, there's Sidepockets, which used to be Champions, in the shopping center with Giant and Chuck E Cheese's.

The Green Turtle on RT. 1 is a great place to watch football during football season!
