I know this isn't Angie's List or anything, but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for an affordable but quality window replacement company that would service the Rockville, MD area. The windows in the my 3BR condo are my responsibility and are getting old and leak air like a sieve--not fun in the winter.

We had our 3 story home replaced windows by "American Design and Build" (410-557-0555, or 800-823-0555. They have a website. Ours were about $650 each. Our 1920 home has saved $3000 annually since in heating fuel and electricity. Also, unconditonally guaranteed not to break, even the screen, ever. I've dropped my ladder hard against the screen and banged the window hard. No damage on either. No road noise, dogs barking, traffic... I just love them. 25 windows, custom made, took about a month to order, installed in one day. Highly recommended!

The only thing I can tell you is whatever you do, DON'T use Home Depot. We had all of our windows replaced by their subcontractor and he not only didn't show up regularly to finish the job on time, but a HUGE crack developed over one of the windows about a year later. They fixed it at no cost, but I am never doing business with them again!

I bought windows from Long (Long Fence) here in Arlington and have one significant problem with them. They pass through noise as if they were open. This is a real problem as I live inside the beltway near busy roads. The windows are their vinyl ones with the low e gas double panes. The windows are good and tight air wise but the noise problem is just horrible. And they were very pricey, but I thought they were worth it. I believe the glass resonates with sound. In the past few years, motorcycle noise is pretty much making this house unliveable.

I see an earlier poster represents Wheaton Door Company. I was very pleased with their service and the quality of their products. I did business with them twice while living in Silver Spring. I wish I'd have thought to call them when I moved to Arlington
