Dave & Busters to open first Prince George's County location at Ritchie Station Marketplace - Washington Business Journal

Quote:
Entertainment mammoth Dave & Busters plans to open its first location in Prince George's County.
The indoor arcade and restaurant destination has leased 40,000 square feet at the Ritchie Station Marketplace shopping center in Capitol Heights, according to NAI Michael, the project developer.
Dave & Busters is part of a 120,000-square-foot phase of the retail center — located at the Capital Beltway and Ritchie-Marlboro Road — that will also include a DSW shoe warehouse and an Ashleigh Furniture showroom, said NAI Michael President Gary Michael.
Oh this should be interesting. Hopefully they have learned lessons from the BLVD and have a way of managing the clientele there. Unfortunately a business like this will attract a wide range of individuals, both good and bad.

Unfortunately, and I mean very unfortunately... I don't think "we'll" hold this one up for long, I hope I'm wrong but that's my prediction.

Good news for business in the county though.

No worse than the one in White Flint. Which I recall could get pretty hood. Though, I'm a bit confused at the location. The demographics there don't seem to match unless Capitol Heights has changed that drastically. I always thought National Harbor or somewhere close to U of MD was a better fit. Even Bowie would seem plausible.

I agree with you, White Flint definitely had that element, even Anne Arundel Mills has it.

I think the location is probably more for Upper Marlboro and Largo. Upper Marlboro is literally right there. The area, although has a Capitol Heights address, is very isolated from most of Capitol Heights. There aren't many housing developments within walking distance and most of the area around it is industrial.

Rumor has it that Silver Spring is about to get one too and I'll be sticking to that one.

Silver Spring is a good option simply because it is near mass transit and a bunch of 20-somethings.

Good old Maryland economics...Run Beretta out of the state and bring in Dave and Busters to replace it.

I loved this from the article...

"We expect Dave & Busters to be a major draw," Michael said. "There's nothing like this in the county now, so we expect it will be a huge benefit for the county and the center."
Dave & Busters typically draws visitors from a radius of about 30 miles.

I wonder if it will be as huge as NH; there's nothing in the county like it, either. If we get a casino and a couple of Chuckie Cheese restaurants to stay in business PGC will have all bases covered. We may never need to leave the county again...save for doctors and hospitals.

It's much more diverse and urban too.

So, what do you want first? The chicken or the egg? On one hand, people complain that the county doesn't have enough amenities to draw corporations and middle and upper income families. Then, we complain about finally getting those amenities that those very people are attracted to.

Personally, I don't care what order improvements come in. As long as they are improvements. If Dave & Busters decided to choose Columbia, there would be a comment about how PGC couldn't attract D&B. lol Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Sigh. This is a gigantic fail all the way around. Who the HELL is traveling to Ritchie Station Marketplace in—of all places—ratchet ass Capitol Heights, MD, to go to a Dave & Busters??? They might as well build a satellite police center somewhere in there, otherwise that is going to be hot mess!

First location in PG County and it's not someplace remotely bursting with people and economical development?? Hell, even lame Beltway Plaza would have made more sense! Why not at National Harbor or in the Hyattsville/College Park area?? That development is going to end up like Blvd at Cap Ctr and I will avoid it like the plague, same as! You can't put a fun hangout like D&B in an area that is sketchy. Just because the development looks nice doesn't mean the whole surrounding area mirrors that. I don't see how this is going to be successful. Perhaps the reason why CP or Hyattsville wouldn't make sense, is if Silver Spring really is happening. Then I could understand since the two locations would be so close to each other. Even still, Ritchie Station??

UGH!
