Hi,

Can anyone tell me if the area where the Cedar Court Apartments located on Olde Towne Avenue in Gaithersburg is a safe area for a single female?

Thanks!

many people on this board will make reference to parts of Gaithersburg as if it's Beirut. Olde Town G-burg gets a bad rap mainly because it has some low income apts nearby and it's near the mall. I think they are trying to remove some of the old apts near there and make it nicer (someday!). I've been to Cedar Court and they seem pretty nice. I live near there with my family on the other side of Mid-County Hwy. The crimes in that area are mainly the same as Rockville, Silver Spring, Germantown, Takoma Park, etc,,, People leave their car doors unlocked or doors open and petty theft takes place. There's no getting away from it anywhere. Even as an adult male i wouldn't stroll around late at night alone in many parts of the county unless its a business district like Bethesda. As a single female...i don't think the area your looking in is less safe than other apts in the area. There are plenty of singles living in and around there.

A problem with these forums is responders using narrow parameters "like not north of Randolph Road & 355 (which is strictly east side of 270 and older areas). Yet there is entire west side of Rockville, No. Potomac, Gaithersburg which has little crime, great stores/pubs, excellent schools, transportation - please look at the whole picture and not small eastern slice of the community.

I live in the crossings apt complex in Gaithersburg, right across from rio center, its walkable to target, kohls etc. I have been living over here for more than a year now. It's very safe area but I have seen cops around few times, which I am sure you will see sometimes at other houses/apt communites. Rents are not so cheap here, but it's safe for sure. You may also want to check out the Avalon at Fields apartments and Avalon at Decoverly. I also saw some apartments in Rockville which were much cheaper rent wise but it looked shady and I did not liked those..

If you need more info about my apt complex shoot me message or smthing here..

HTH..

I would tend to agree - there are bad parts to most cities (well, with the exception of Bethesda-LOL) The further out you go the cheaper and bigger the units. Gaithersburg definitely has some good points. If you are a party girl then get closer to Bethesda otherwise, look for a place near where you work. If you have to drive you can at least take advantage of the reverse traffic pattern. Check out Rockville center or further north towards Gaithersburg. There are some newer developments, cheaper, and closer to your work - but accessible via the Metro for your party moods.

Check the White Flint area. Not much nightlife yet, but its coming. You can walk to metro and its a short ride to Bethesda/DC.
