Very senior widow moving from NY to be close to family in Gaithersburg.
I'll have a car but want to find a 2BR apt. within a block or two of lively
shopping and red line. What are possibilities from Rockville down to about Chevy Chase?

Can't know reality from web sites re Bethesda, North Bethesda, White Flint Station" etc,.

Thanks

Friendship Heights is a definite possibility. Others do have grocery stores near, but it depends on how far you want to walk. There are also active senior communities that run shuttles to the metro and to grocery stores.

What about a place like Rockville Town Square?

Well here is my breakdown-

Friendship Heights- fits your requirements

Bethesda- I don't know how close a grocery store is to the metro but, you could easily take a bus or cab to the grocery store. I think it would be a doable option.

NIH-- not a viable option

Grovesnor-- you could live close to the metro, but you'd have to take a bus to grocery store

White Flint-- they are building a Whole Foods relatively close to the metro, but I don't know when that is slated to finish. I think there are apartments near the center where the grocery store will be. You may still find the walk to the metro relatively long.

Twinsbrook-- This is also a doable option, but you'd have to cross a very busy, wide street to get to the metro. Unless you are in excellent shape, it may be an intimidating walk.

Rockville & Shady Grove-- I don't know the areas surrounding the metro well enough to comment.

Friendship Heights is good. Bethesda is also good, there is a Safeway right next to the metro. Grosvenor has a little grocery store which is actually good.
