Hello, I am looking into moving into the Germantown area and taking the MARC train to Union Station. I've read a few older threads from a few years ago about certain trains getting crowded in the morning commute, and I was wondering if I could get some updated information about the likelihood of getting parking at the station, and getting seats on the train if I were looking to get on at Germantown station between the 6:00am-7:00am time slots (I believe the schedule says trains stop at 6:11, 6:35, and 6:54). If anybody has any experience with the Germantown commute via this MARC train, any insight would be appreciated!

For seats at Germantown you're probably fine. It's from Gaithersburg on that it starts filling up, but then a bunch of people get out at Rockville so you're good for a seat from there.

What about the parking to the station. How far is that. Is there cover at the station while waiting for the train while it rains?

Parking at Germantown gets really packed but most likely you'll eventually find a space, the lot is right next to the station. Just find parking 10-15min before the train arrives. There is no covered parking at any of the Brunswick line stations starting from Germantown besides Silver Spring.

At what time in the morning is the parking lot "packed?"

Is there cover at the Germantown station while waiting for the train?

You shouldn't have any trouble finding parking if you are using any of the trains with the exception of the 880 (~8:19 departure). For the 8:19 train [880] you can oftentimes find a space if you arrive before 8:00am. Recently I have started parking in the American Zen College lot for the 8:19 train. (16815 Germantown Rd, Germantown, MD 20874) that is just down Liberty Mill Road.

Many people park their vehicles overnight at the Germantown station without issues. I know a few vehicles have been parked near the Old Bank / Germantown Historical Society for weeks. (I'm looking at you White Minivan).

Seats on the train are never really an issue from Germantown. Worst case scenario would be that you will have a middle seat.
