Many condo associations limit or prohibit the owner from renting out the unit. Do townhouses usually have such restrictions?

Not at all. The restriction is there to protect the quality of life of the owners.

Not usually. But they do usually do restrict subdividing the unit, or turning it into a flophouse.

The regulations are evolving right now about rental limitations in HOAs/COAs. There have been some cases in other states which struck down rental prohibitions.

I don't have the cites to link, this is just what I've picked up from property managers I know.
