Hello,

I am having a difficult time finding good rated elementary schools assigned to areas where rental properties are. I am searching for areas with a 30 minute (or less) commute to Hanover, south or west of Hanover, such as Silver Spring, Beltsville, Laurel, Columbia. etc. For every rental community I've found online and when the address is inputted into greatschools.org, the school rating is poor. Parents and/or people familiar with this part of Maryland and elementary schools, do you have any recommendations?

Thanks in advance,
Rootz

Greatschools is biased and some of the ratings are outdated. There are plenty of schools within a 30 minute radius to Hanover that have good elementary schools. All those areas you mentioned have good elementary schools.

Another question is, are u looking for a 30 minute radius or 30 mile radius? there is a difference

30 minute radius. There are schools in the areas I mentioned rated a 2 out of 10, that's pretty bad even if greatschools.org was biased. Does anyone have specific rental community names with decently rated elementary schools, 7 and above?

Try Elkridge and Ellicott City.

Crofton, Odenton (21113, Piney Orchard), Columbia, Elkridge, Ellicott City, Catonsville.... I don't know apartment communities well but you could always rent a townhouse from an owner if you keep striking out.

I would look into Laurel, Bowie, Crofton, Odenton, and Columbia. Those areas have some schools rated "bad" and some rated good. And the reason I say its biased, like most review sites, are based on someone's opinion at that moment. If you are upset, you give it a negative rating because of something at that moment upset you... What about the other 99% that its a good experience?

But OP if you're that stuck on Great Schools go to Howard County...

Implicit in that statement is a claim that people with something negative to say unbalance the results more than positive comment counter weighs, and to a measurable degree. I'm not saying you're right or wrong, but I do think you need to provide some evidence to support that claim.

Here's what GS say about their rating system. It's not clear to me how individuals writing something either positive or negative influence the ratings.
