Avoid Lanham alltogether if possible. My buddy only lived there because he was an intern at PG County Hospital and it was a reasonable commute.

In the one year he lived there, his car was broken into and had his sound system stolen.

He was car jacked at gun point by 3 teenage black kids. He moved out quickly after the car jacking in the parking lot of his apartment complex (I forgot the name of the apartment complex)

There are much safer places to live. I'm not trying to be racist. I'm Asian myself and my friend is Indian. But I've been to the Lanham area and never felt safe, especially at nighttime.

I myself am a PG defender and recent "returnee," but this is ridiculous. This is an area where no single woman, regardless of race, would probably kill to live.

As a matter of fact I know a few single woman who live in this area. They were friends and they all bought homes around the corner from each other.

Lanham has both good and bad areas so you're both right.

Not everyone can afford the rents in Bethesda, possibly including the original poster. Plus, I'm sure this area would be considered a "step up" for some people.
