If my job asked me to relocate to one of those areas, I'd be looking for another job. I'm sure that's the sentiment of a lot of the 2500 employees who are tagged to relocate to these less desirable areas. I can't imagine a young 20-something recruit excited about Clarksburg, WV.

Yes, your retort will be preferences are relative. But come on.

It is.

As you point out, anyone who is transferred and wants to stay in D.C. can find another job. I'll willing to bet the FBI would have no problem filling the vacant positions.

I'm not so sure. A lot of those positions are specialty positions. A big question is how are they going to fund these relocations. They aren't going to make these people do it all themselves. ANd I don't think that was included in the cost of the whole project. I'm sure incentives will be necessary to get these people to move to places they may not prefer. Who knows how much that will cost. It is a lot easier to have someone who is already familiar with the job than to hire and train new employees.

Representatives for the FBI and General Services Administration told the Senate's Committee on Environment and Public Works Wednesday morning the new plan is the best option going forward despite having previously rejected the notion in favor of moving the nation's chief law enforcement agency to a new campus in suburban Maryland or Northern Virginia.

But the plan's $3.3 billion price tag omits key figures that could significantly inflate that estimate, including how much it will cost the government to rent highly secure space for the FBI temporarily at an off-site location while the Hoover Building at 935 Pennsylvania Ave. NW is demolished and a new facility is built. Those costs could add up to as much as $1.2 billion, according to one estimate provided to Maryland's Congressional delegation, exceeding a previous estimate of $3.6 billion to build the FBI a new headquarters campus in either Greenbelt, Landover or Springfield.
...
...
...
The Hoover Building sits across Pennsylvania Avenue from the Trump International Hotel, and some have speculated about the financial benefit to President Donald Trump by eliminating the prospect of a new hotel on the site if the FBI moved and it was offered to private developers. Under repeated questioning from Van Hollen, neither Mathews nor Haley would say whether they were aware of any conversations between the White House and the GSA or the FBI about the prospect of keeping the FBI's headquarters at its current site.

They're not going to get the money for re-doing that building. Congress is not appropriating that. They'll just have to stay in that building until Trump leaves office.

It's the first time I can remember the FBI hasn't gotten exactly what they wanted.

Some positive news: The latest spending bill effectively bans the use of federal funds to construct a new FBI headquarters on its existing site in DC. This could make it more likely they'll continue with their previous plans to move it.

Very important. I suspect the developers will just wait Trump out.

Looks like Hogan is trying to restart the clock.

"Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan is pushing to move the FBI’s headquarters from Pennsylvania Avenue in D.C. to Maryland."

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/go...nd/ar-BB1dmVzJ

So, let's wait another 10 years for the gov to decide what it wants to do.
