I am going to start working in Gaithersburg and I am looking to rent 2 Bedroom, 2 bath within 20 mins drive.
I do not want to spend more than $1500/month (including parking) - although lower the better- would love it if it is in $1200 range. Should have washer/dryer, dish-washer, spacious closets. Fitness center is a plus, prefer wall to wall carpet and covered parking. I do not want to be in an area that has a lot of crime or is too dead (lively area is preferred).

I do not know much about the apartments, townhomes (for rent) there. All suggestions and input are very welcome and appreciated.

Also, how can I find private listings of homes for rent in gaithersburg area?

Thank you

Check out this link

http://www.rentals.com/Home-Rentals/Searchresults.aspx (broken link)

The lower the price, the less desirable the neighborhood. You may want to look at germantown, which is just north where better apts rent for $1200 or more.
Are you from outside Maryland? If so, welcome to long major commutes, even if you are 10 miles from where you work. There is no direct east/west access across Montgomery County - only N/S on Rt. 270. Also, welcome to a very high cost of living - for renters as well - unless you want to live in a crime-riddern area.

Thanks. I did look into that website.
I am willing to drive 20 mins... not more than that each way.
But gaithersburg is indeed expensive... especially in the crime free areas.
Do you think I can consider Silver spring - I know it will be farther - but is it cheaper?

It's the 2 bath requirement that makes it hard to suggest. Silver Spring is beyond your 20 minute cut off, but I don't think Silver Spring is any cheaper than Gaithersburg.
