Everybody can see the linked article or has already been updated on the 2 Guatemalan men that were brought into the U.S. 7 months ago and were arrested for raping a girl at a high school in Rockville.

2 Rockville High students charged with rape after brutal bathroom assault | WTOP

But what's not being reported is that these 18- year Olds were in the FRESHMAN class. How is this possible? Isn't there a maximum age for high school and if so, " starting" in 9th grade as a 18- year old doesn't cut it. They cannot stay until they are 22. Anyone have answers?

"Children age 5 by September 1, 2016, and not age 21 on the first day of school are eligible for enrollment in MCPS for the 2016-17 school year."

I don't see an issue w/a 17 y/o and 18 y/o (16 and 17 at the start of the year?) being called freshmen. There are lots of courses where freshmen (or younger) and upperclassmen are in the same class, so the practical effects are basically nonexistent. Not that we even know that's the case in this situation; they might have been exclusively in ESOL classes, as far as we know.

Johnsonkk, no one cares about that young girl.

Montgomery County might not officially be a sanctuary county but it may as well be. They have been enabling the illegal population for years. One reason we left Montgomery.

WJLA has already dropped the story from it's web site. Later, there will be lawyers and activists from LaRaz (The Race) lined up to help these men. No one will protest in outrage to protect the innocent girl.

Hopefully, her parents will sue the Montgomery County School system for a huge settlement to help her with the therapy -- physical as well as mental. We'll probably never hear it in the news; they will quietly settle the case.

And remember, the new head of the Democrat Party is Tom Perez. He got his political start in Montgomery County and wants this for the whole country. (Just stay west of I-270, buy a million dollar house and keep your head in the sand, you'll be fine)

What the hell is wrong with you? Of course everyone is taking the allegations seriously. They've been arrested and are being held without bond as the investigation continues.

You say that as if MoCo's crime rate isn't well below the national average.

You are correct. It's not unusual, although somewhat rare, to have a student listed as a 9th Grader who is 16 or older. It's especially common with immigrants.

I probably had at least one, if not more, older 9th Grader (non-immigrant, homegrown student) every year of my 30 years teaching high school. Hell, I had a 16 year old 7th Grader my first year. The only kid who drove to Middle School.

Why do you say that no one cares about her? Do you believe she will be unable to obtain mental health treatment for PTSD?

And indeed the proposed priorities of the previous Administration were to focus deportation efforts on actual criminals, which is to say people who do things like this. Get them behind bars and kick them out - most of us have no problem with that.

A law enforcement agency that's going to try to jail people who lack sufficient proof of citizenship is going to have a lot of residents unwilling to talk to cops at all.

I don't think you know what sanctuary city means. In fact, I am pretty certain you do not. Let me break it down for you.

MoCo and all of MD really does alert ICE when they have arrested someone and the person has an order of final removal and will give ICE 48 hours to come get them. In that case, MD is not a sanctuary state at all bc we alert ICE. Final orders however do NOT tell you what the person is wanted for, it could be petty theft or unpaid parking tickets or it could be something more serious.

What MANY jurisdictions will not do is hold the person indefinitely while ICE gets their act together bc guess what? It actually costs a **** ton $ to hold these people and the federal government is NOT paying the counties and cities back. Many states have said, well if you pay us back, we will hold people but you won't. MD will hold the person for 48 hours which is a lot longer than some other places. In fact, the constitutionality of the 48 hour hold is constantly discussed

The federal govt is OVERREACHING by expecting states to pay for holding these people and it is a classic case of federal govt overreach. Economically, states do not have the $ to hold people forever. They just don't. In fact, the fed. govt has tried to conscript state officers to enforce federal laws and the supreme court said that was illegal. The court case was about the enforcement of Brady Background checks for handgun purchases. So conservatives love to decry 'states rights' but in this case are notably silent and hypocritical.
