News broke this morning that Barnes & Noble is closing at Bethesda Row.

What does this mean for the future of other massive B&N stores and bricks & mortar book stores?
Bethesda has long been known as one of the most literate and educated cities in the U.S.

Doesn't mean much. They may be trying to become destination stores like Wegmans. It makes sense due to the presence of Amazon and e-books. All is not lost, the one at Montrose Crossing is not going anywhere.

Unfortunate, but inevitable considering the ppsqft of Bethesda Row and the size of a bookstore. I don't think many care about the bookstore, itself, nearly as much as the "third space" the bookstore provided the community. Longer term, I hope Bethesda gets a larger public library, a la downtown Silver Spring, to help fill that void.

Functionally, aren't they really becoming cafes attached to bookstores?
