What area do the experts think we should look at? We also have a 4yr old son so we need to be near a good daycare, family area, parks, etc.

We will be renting hopefully a townhome but we are open to an apartment. We just want to start focusing on an area...I would prefer not to drive to DC and to have a 1/2 commute to DC. Hubby can deal with a longer commute!

Thanks!!!

Just throwing out some ideas.

Laurel, or north of Laurel (Howard County), near a MARC station.

Georgia ave, north of the Glenmont area. (not far to Metro)

Since you don't care how long your husband's commute is:

Bethesda, North Bethesda, or Rockville.

Thanks for the info!! I guess it kind of sounds mean about hubby's commute...he can drive up to an hour and it would be fine. I take care of ds, house, basically everything. Therefore, I need a short commute. He basically goes to work and that is it!
