Nope. Better parents/homes... where education is valued and reinforced
and where the time and other resources to see to their kids success isn't a challenge.

But expecting a school system to make up for shortcomings in that arena... doesn't work.
No matter how much CASH you might burn in the attempt.

show me a school system that spends more as a much as scarsdale,NY per student, where the school system is failing

Name a school district that is bad and i can point to the budget with receipts

DC spends $14,000 per student at 48,000 students= $702,000,000

Show me a district where such a high percentage of adult educational attainment has been achieved
and where the students are doing poorly ... regardless of how much is being spent (or not).

What's the highest earning zipcode in PG? What schools serve that area?
What are the graduation rates and scores there compared to the County as a whole?
(I bet NBP has that stat ready to go)

Well, I don't have the numbers past 2013-14.

Excluding Roosevelt, Oxon Hill and Flowers due to their cherry picking the best kids for Science and Tech, historically the three top comprehensive high schools on all the measures (going back before NCLB) were Laurel, Bowie and Frederick Douglass followed by Gwynn Park. Laurel and Bowie would trade between 1 and 2 every other year or so and sometimes Douglass and Gwyn Park would trade between 3 and 4.

Roosevelt was always at the top with Oxon Hill 5th to 7th if you include all the high schools.

All the schools named, with the exception of Oxon Hill, have one thing in common, fairly high SES.

As a note, Douglass has dropped some the last few years. Multitude of reasons, some school specific and some systemic.

Is it safe to say that Bowie and Laurel have tended to have a higher median household income
and rate of Bachelors degrees ...as compared to the County as a whole?

Related... is there any breakdown of how much of the $17,500 cited is SES?

Yeah, that would be a pretty safe assumption. Douglass and Gwynn Park not so much for degrees although both are solidly middle class.

One thing that kills the school system is the number of kids sent to private schools. Management at both the system and County level are finally admitting that.

nah, the best way to fix it is to A. Kill corruption, B. Encourage education at a lower level.

ORLY. Let's take a friendly bet on a math test. Group 1 taking the math test are 7th graders from PGC, educated at $17,500 per student. Group 2 are a bunch of Indian Kids educated under a bridge at next to nothing. Now place your bet. Which is to say, it's not about the Benjamins.
