Hi,

Thinking about moving to Gaithersburg to be close to family but job is out in McLean. What is the commute like these days?

How about the commute from Rockville/Bethesda areas? Grosvenor-Strathmore?

From Gaithersburg, or the others, if you cross the bridge before 7 am, it should be fine. It used to be that we had to leave by 6:30 to get across the bridge by 7, but I can't say if that's early enough now, 5 years later.

Since all the areas you mention converge at the American Legion Bridge you can look at the difference of each of them to the bridge. I commuted from Frederick to Tysons & Mclean for a bunch of years. on a good day it is bearable on a bad day it $**Ks. I used to survive by listening to books on CD. I alwayd did a traffic check on WTOP but learned not to keep listening.

Assuming you take 270 South towards VA; be prepared for a lot of traffic jams once you get to 495. I'm always thankful to be going the opposite direction once I get to 495. And I work non-standard hours.

I did have a friend that had the opposite commute - lived in McLean and worked in Gaithersburg. From what I understand that wasn't so bad; except Thursday nights. So she'd do all her shopping in Gburg before heading home.
