I'm planning to relocate to Maryland on July. I'm a teacher and I would like to go to a nice area. I've got several options one of them is Prince George County, or Charles County. I think Charles County is much better. I'm planning to go this weekend, to get familiar with the area. What place do you recommend me in Charles County.

Any advice is highly appreciate it.

If you are planning on living in PG county. You can also take a look at Upper Marlboro which is 10-15 minutes away from Waldorf which is in Charles County.

What type of lifestyle are you looking for?

Waldorf is the most urban area in CC, with lots of shopping, but much higher population densities. Hughesville (which has a yummy farmers market every wed. & sat on rt.5) is much more rural, and houses are more spread out, same goes for nanjemoy, welcome, and indian head. La Plata and White Plains are sort of half-way between the two in terms of quality of life.

I think La Plata and Hughesville are the prettiest areas, and you'll find that the more rural the area is the cheaper the homes are, but as the prices go down, the distance to amenities goes up.

Hey Guys!

I apologize, since I didn't return to the comments.

Well, to TeamBenya we are a very urban couple, usually we go out for dinner every other night. I think I'm going to Indian Head, CC. I've been reading about housing and everything, but I don't really find anything for rent. Do you have any recommended places to live in? I would like to live close to where I'll work since my schedule is from 7:00 am, till 3:00pm.

I want a safe place, but with a nice area. We are my husband and me, and we've got a dog. we are in our early 30s. So any advice would be greatly appreciate it.

I strongly recommend Charles county over PG. I taught in PG county last year and it was a horrible experience. I was in a very rough school, but there also aren't many good schools in PG. The county school system as a whole is very disorganized. They lose your paperwork and make mistakes all over the place. They messed up my sick leave several times and I had to spend over 3 hours at their central office before someone could actually help me with it. I have heard much better things about Charles County schools overall.

If you're used to goin out to dinner every other night, I would strongly recommend against Indian Head, simply because of the distance necessary to travel to multiple eateries. White Plains, or Waldorf may be a better fit. Indian Head will provide a better chance for a large yard and privacy, but something in the middle can be found.

Consider that you're going to have a 15 minute drive every other night in order to find a wide variety of places to eat out/things to do.

Wow, Thanks that's true we usually eat out. Any safe community in White Plains or Waldorf that you know?. How much would be the rent in those places? We are looking for a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom flat house or apartment for rent.

Not really any apartments to speak of in White Plains, but there are a couple in Waldorf. there's lots of homes for rent, however, ranging from $1,200-$2,000/mo depending on how much you want. Keep in mind that you're likely to see a higher rental cost with a dog, and you need to be sure that the landlord will allow pets.

Try looking for rentals online or send me a private message and I'll pull a property list for you. I generally don't do rentals, but I know lots of people who do and it's easy to pull the lists.
