Waldorf is getting worst and I would not advise anyone to move to the area close to the mall. The further the better. I did see the mall is getting renovated but the stores are horrible. The mall needs better stores and the people who goes to the mall are very loud.
The mall is totally run down.
Yes, I know fjennell, you have made that quite clear! LOL! And I have to agree that it's not getting any better. But I still think comparatively speaking, it is not to the point of being unbearable, and it is nowhere near the level of SOME PARTS OF PG. However, that being said, I wish I could move back to PG, especially with gas prices the way they are. But I'm not unhappy where I live; I have great neighbors and nobody bothers us! ... yet

If you want to know anything about Waldorf, the good, the bad and the ugly I can let you know, as I do live there.
Go back to my post where I stated I went to the mall which I did on Monday and it will be my last trip there.
I used to go to Waldorf almost everyday because my son used to attend Little Gym in Waldorf. I used to got to the Sam's Club and during the past winters if our power goes out we would go to Waldorf only because Waldorf is closer to my home then majority of PG county. I am about 10 minutes away from Charles County. One of my friend almost got robbed in the mall that is 100% true. I have no reason to make up stories. I am closing to Waldorf then I am Bowie or certain part of Upper Marlboro in PG county.

Whatever people say about PG county take it with a grain of Salt.

Whatever you say about Charles should be taken the same way.

Waldorf is not the "City of Murder" that some on this blog have tried to make it out to be. It is one of the safest areas in Maryland. Whoever said that Richmond was safer than Waldorf needs to put the pipe down and leave that crack alone. I would feel much safer walking the streets in Waldorf than Richmond anyday. And if you look at the crime in Richmond and the crime in Waldorf they do not even compare. If you think it's so bad in Waldorf try living in Anacostia DC for a week. Then you will really know what bad is. According to statistics Waldorf is made up of approx. 60% whites, 20% blacks, 10% hispanics and 10% asians. There are some very nice housing developments in Charles County. And I see Charles County police patrolling the area on a regular basis. Fortunately I have never had to use their services in the years that I have lived there. Waldorf, in my opinion, used to be a pile of dirt for years. But now there are a variety of stores and it seems like new things are going up each day. You will not have to travel far from want of anything. There is occasional crime here and there but you will never find anyplace that is crime free. What makes Waldorf one of the safer places, and it's one of the reasons that I myself chose to live there, is because we have very limited access to public transportation. We do not have metro buses or trains that run into DC. Having those things would ruin Waldorf as it would open the door for people who don't live there to just catch the bus or train there and get off, walk around and commit crimes. We do however have Van Go buses that make local runs between Waldorf, LaPlata and Indian Head and for those who work in DC, they can take advantage of the Keller buses that run on a limited schedule during rush hour. I am sure you will discover that you like the area very much.

St. Charles Mall has been completely renovated. Parking lot and all so it is not run down. It's one of the most upkept malls I've visited. And although you obviously do not like the stores there, the ones they do have appeal to the younger crowd who like to shop and parents like me who have teenagers they need to make purchases for. I can always find what I want. And if my teenagers want a particular shoe they can't find I go on-line (that's what my computer is for) or I drive to another mall (that's what my car is for). You will never find everything you want in any mall. That's why there are so many. Since you can't seem to find what you want there you might want to go on-line and check other malls to see if THEY have the stores that you are looking for.

I used to live on AAFB 4 years ago and we would go to Waldorf almost every weekend for one thing or another and I loved it, I thought it was a lovely place, of course it's been 4 years and I've heard it's changed but I guess I'll have to make a trip over that way and find out!

Waldorf is not that bad as some are painiting it (Richmond, come on now!), there are a few "bad" (and I use that term loosley) spots around the Acton lane area, a few more in the various complexs surrounding St. Charles Pkwy, and a few transients walking up and down 301, but other than that, it is nice. It has the propensity to get a bit crowded at times however (mainly because of soooo many stores and shopping areas), as I still dont think they are ready for the growth that has happened there in such a short period. They are on their way though. I have always felt that there was not enough for teens do to do in Waldorf, but as I said earlier they are working on that as well.

Well as a resident of Waldorf it's okay. I'm a former resident of P.G. I grew up in Suitland and on G street (they didn't call it Simple City for no reason) off of benning road in S.E. Waldorf is far from ghetto. So I know what ghetto is. I believe a lot of people view it as ghetto ( this is just my opinion) because the minority population is becoming the majority in Charles County. It's sad to say but it seems like people equate race with how ghetto something is. I could be wrong, but I doubt it. I would not suggest living in La Plata. You will add another 15-20 mins to your commute. I wouldn't really recommend living in Waldorf if your trying to work in Alexandria. It's terrible trying to cross the Woodrow Wilson bridge. My second notion for Waldorf becoming "ghetto" is that it is way too many people coming down here to live. Also they are popping up a Shopping center left and right. I live off of St patricks drive in Lancaster. We have apartments popping up. A little waterfront entertainment development. You would think that one shopping center is enough. Charles County said no we are going to pack everything into whatever space we have. We have another dag on shopping center coming up. I swear if it weren't for my kids and schools, i would move back up into P.G. county. But Waldorf is a good area so what we have 4 murders. It is no where near as violent as people portray it. You can still live the lollipop dream and raise your 2.5 kids and white picket fence in the all american suburb. All jokes aside if your content on living in Waldorf it is a good spot.
