I did that commute for 2 years... I didn't find it to be too bad (did shift my hours though, 7-4). Its really a reverse commute relative to the majority. But I also didn't need to go into downtown Baltimore.

Going from Shady Grove area to BWI area (~40 miles) - took about 40 minutes in and about 1 hour out .... add 15-20min in bad weather/traffic. I'd usually take 270/495/95 in the morning and the back way (95->216->lime kiln->Ednor ->28) in the afternoon. On rainy days I'd just take the back way for both legs......

I rarely hit any traffic in the morning. And the afternoon traffic was really only when I got to Rockville.

How long ago was this? 40 minutes to BWI? Takes longer than that now.

The ICC is running east/west from PG co (Laurel/Rt.198) to MoCo (Shady Grove area dumping point). I don't know how this really helps anyone living in Greenbelt, which seems to be due east of the Rt. 95/495 interchange, get to Baltimore. And no, it will NOT be free (nor inexpensive - probably $4 a toll, I'm bettin').

Plan on either the B/W parkway or 95 North or a bunch of backroads that I don't know of that dump out onto major arteries.

I commuted to U of Maryland, Downtown, from Rockville (20852). It only took 40-45 minutes. However, I had a bad time getting home when there was an accident and I took almost 2 hours to get home.

Uh...the OP used to work in Greenbelt, not live.

If you read the post, they want to commute from Rockville to B-more...so the ICC will help.

I've been doing this for 6 months (King Farm to Owings Mills). About 65-68 minutes in the morning (7:30-8:40) going some backroads around Olney to 108, then 216 to 29 to 70 to 695 and then 795. Evenings more like 57-60 minutes (5:45-6:45) going 795 to 695 to 70 to 29 to 198 to 28.

Presently, I travel from Baltimore to Rockville and make a right on Fairland from route 29S and turn make the turn on University and go one mile past Georgia and it take about 1 hour. When the next leg of the ICC opens early next year, where do I pick it up and how much faster do you think it will be over the fairland ave?

Thanks

If you look at satellite view on Google Maps you can see where the exits for the ICC will be. I think it will save a lot of time.
