I personally went to two of the schools you mentions: murray hill and atholton and both were good. I mean anywhere in Howard County you are going to find better schooling than in other nearby counites. I have moved out of the North Laurel(20723) area into Columbia and have heard that Murray Hill is getting more and more crowded, but nonetheless still a good school for educating purposes.

As far as the best schooling in Howard County, that can be debatable because it depends what your looking for your child. If you want your child to be heavily into sports and edcuation, River Hill could be the best choice. River Hill has a strong backing towards their sports programs and many sports often are top competitors within the county. Centennial is sometimes known for all the "smarts". Which may not be the case, be often they score well on state wide tests over other county schools. Both schools mentioned are feed into from high income areas aroudn the county.

My thing is this, as mentioned before, the majority of elem, middle, and high schools are above avaerage when compared to other nearby counties and I am sure your child will receive an excellent education at eny of the schools.

however, we were just out at the farther extreme of HoCo Laurel: towards Fulton, near the APL. There is a ton of developing going on over there (very sad to my mind) with town house and McMansions galore. Very upscale. I assume kids there will go to atholton & hammond which are good schools. There are a few places to shop around there, a Bloom grocery store and they're putting in some other centers (Maple Lawn) off Rt 216. So, there are parts of HoCo Laurel that aren't the bottom of Whiskey Bottom or mostly in Jessup/Savage. You're going to pay through the nose for it, though.
