They are / maybe / hopefully opening a Wegmans in Largo, which is about 10 minutes from Upper Marlboro. I like them much better than Whole Foods.

Now that you mention it, I stopped trekking to Annapolis to Whole Foods, because I got tired of having to return tainted meat and seafood. And one year, I bought one of those organic turkeys for Thanksgiving from WF, and it just wasn't as good as the previous one I had gotten. I went back to Butterball.

Are you comparing an organic turkey to a butterball?

In case you're not aware, a butterball turkey is soaked in brine. That's why it's "tender and juicy."

An organic turkey, of course, isn't brined and is all natural.

It's akin to comparing pork tenderloin to spam.

How do you feel about living in PG and having to drive to other counties, and even other states, to shop?

No, I'm comparing a Butterball to a two-minutes-from-stale organic turkey sold by an expensive store that shouldn't be selling nearly stale food but has actually sold me several pieces of tainted meat and seafood.

Would you rather eat a stale pork tenderloin or fresh spam?

I had a very good, organic turkey from Whole Foods before. But after being burned a few times, I don't hold the store in such high esteem.

I shop in Prince George's County, but since their is no whole foods in my community, I have to travel out of the county for specialty items that I can not normally get from Safeway, Shoppers or Giant. The same if you live in Calvert, but travel to Prince George's to go to IKEA for items that you can not get in Kmart or Sears. No difference there.

However, to answer the question directly, it does blow, but that is the nature of the beast.

Hopefully the county can began attracting more upscale establishments. They did a pretty good job with the National Harbor, and if that proves to be a success, then maybe others business will see the benefit in bringing their wares here.

How can raw turkey be stale? Did you leave it out for defrost too long?

You should be a bit more careful when grocery shopping to not pay for something unless you know it's fresh, especially when it comes to meat and seafood.

National Harbor is mostly chain restaurants though.

When I think upscale, I think Nordstrom's, Saks, etc.

BTW, there's a brand new and huge Ikea in Dale City for those living in VA.

That has been a PG complaint for years and has some justification.

I live in Calvert and personally don't have a problem driving elsewhere for stuff. Of course when we moved here the county was still considered very rural, and coming from a very rural area of PA I was used to it. Still doesn't bother me because any business looks at the population, income and other demographic information when considering opening up shop somewhere, and I like our now somewhat rural area.

Come on, now. Reread what you wrote. Meat can be fresh, stale or even rotten whether it's raw or cooked. In this case, the turkey didn't taste as good and fresh as turkey should taste. It didn't smell bad when it was raw.

And, if I can open a packet of meat and sniff it while still in the store, I would have a better idea about freshness. I don't think the store would want me doing that. And it's hard to sniff wrapped meat.

Veering a tad off-topic, aren't we?
