I'm looking for a place with some character and good schools in Mont County. Is Rockville it? (Silver Spring: houses)

I think Rockville sounds like a nicer area with some charming homes and neighborhoods with good schools.

I will be working in Silver Spring and my wife looks to be also working in the Silver Spring area.

Is Rockville one of the more charming areas of Mont County? Are there any other areas I should look at?

I have a middle school and elementary age son. I would like to be close to transit, but I think you are close to transit jut about everywhere in this area.

I would like to find a older home, that is up to date.

Thoughts?

Thanks for all your well thought out and informative posts! 400,000 dollar shacks, 2 hour commutes and out of control crime.

I hope me stay is short in this metro or I hope my image of the metro from this forum is way off.

It all comes down to your price range. Rockville has places with character and older housing stock but it can be pricey, at least compared to other areas.

Generally, the neighborhoods west of 355 are more desirable, but there are plenty of decent areas east of 355 along Norbeck or Muncaster Mill Roads.

Since you're going to be working in Silver Spring, you might want to check out some of the areas there or in Kensington. Zip codes 20901 and 20910 have areas that would meet your criteria. Schools do rank lower than in Rockville though.

Don't like my answer? You asked for "thoughts". I thought about it. My answer was no. I don't ride the metro and never will. People on the metro smell with an over-dose of perfume or herendous body oder. Just because a house costs $400.000 dose not mean the people are not gutter trash. If you speak English, good luck it's a 3rd or 4th language in Prince George and Montgomery counties.

What about Mt. Airy? Has a very charming downtown area, it's building up quite a bit.. it also has a nice Walmart... I don't think it would be a horrible commute to Silver Spring, and I believe houses are a bit cheaper there..
