Hey,

I'm gonna be moving out to MD/VA area soonish (summertime or so), and working in McLean, VA. I'm looking for advice on home buying (first time home buyer).

I'm gonna leave my question pretty simple here. I'm looking in the 250-350k range, preferably for a single family home. I'm 21, and one of my hobbies is car stuff. My main requirement (other than budget) is that I have to be able to comfortably park 3 cars - so probably 2 car garage + 1 in driveway/street. I'm thinking Rockville/Gaithersburg/Silver Spring, although I'm open to NoVA too. Am I gonna be able to find anything? I've been looking a lot at foreclosures on hotpads and zillow, but it's hard to determine garage space on those.

Thanks in advance!
Justin

It will be tough because most of your search results will probably yield condo's and townhouses, but there are a few modestly sized homes with a two car garage scattered around Rockville, Gaithersburg and Silver Spring. This map brings up a few results - "garage" in Rockville Real Estate & Rockville Homes For Sale — Trulia.com

There will be a lot of naysayers here trying to tell you that you're going to have a hard time finding exactly what you're looking for and within your price range. They'll probably be right, but I think it's doable if you search in the right places. Don't rule out NOVA - Particularly the area between Sterling and Leesburg, as well as the areas between Centreville and Manassas.

You will have better luck in that range in Gaithersgurg. HU and I are currently looking in a "slightly" higher range and a LOT of houses do not have a garage (carport yes). HOWEVER, your big headache is going to be traffic.
My husband drives to McClean from Silver Spring 1-1.5 hr to work and 1.5-2 hrs coming home. Live in Virginia and save yourself a major headache AND you'll save yourself from Maryland income taxes.

I know someone who recently closed on a house in Montgomery County on close to acre, with a two car garage and long driveway that could fit at least 4 cars single file, for just over $350k, about 10 mins from the beltway. So they're out there, you just got to look hard. I'm a car guy so the garage can hold two cars, and I THINK there may be enough height, actually there is, for a two post lift. BTW, this house is an an older home. I would focus on Rockville and Silver Spring, you won't find that (within your requirement) in Gaithersburg as it has to be an older home.
