Is there a long waiting list for the Pre-K program? Which areas offer the best education for Pre-K? Is there a fee or is it state sponsored? Do daycares/preschools offer Pre-K? or it is thru the elementary schools? My daughter is 19 months old, when can i sign her up?

Pre-K is not free in MD. The fee is base upon your income. You can go on Montgomery and Prince Georges school website for info. Alot of churches also offer pre-k as well and the minimum age is 2.5yrs old.

As another poster said, Pre-K is not free in most & is based on your income in most counties.

My brother had to keep my neice in day-care until she turned 5 because of the minimum age requirements in PG county, which says they can't begin free education / public school until they turn 5 years old.

Here is a link for Pre-K programs in different areas in MD:
Marylandinfo.com: Maryland Preschool

Good luck.

I live in Prince Georges and when my son was 2.5yrs old I put him in a church school which have a minimum age of 2.5yrs old. The fee was $525 a month which is cheaper then day care and he was learning. He is now 4 yrs old and is still attending the same school. When I check out what kids in public schools will be learning in pre-k he is way advance.

not yet, still in south florida, seems like things are getting worse down here. I can't wait to come back to beautiful Maryland. I really can't imagine raising my daughter down here, living here is like living in a jungle, unless you make 100k a year, you might have a better quality of life. The education down here can't compare to MD including private schools. You should pm me.

LOL, about the your take on the education in FLA. I lived in FLA for a while and did not think the education system was that great, I was behind when I moved to NJ. However, I'm not sure if people remember a few years ago when they started the rankings of schools across the US by AP/IB participation, FLA had a ton of schools that made the list. Now MD ranks really high on the list, because if you measure it people perform to it and MD is now pushing AP even more.
