Default Working in Bowie - where to live?

We're looking for good schools, safe, family-friendly, with a reasonable commute to Bowie. Where would we get the most house for our money? Thanks.

Right there in Bowie! In the city limits, the Levitttown houses are closest to the best elementary schools. The T and F sections, M and W sections, H section, are ones I am thinking of off the bat. The Levitt houses are not big (although some are larger with extensions), but most of the neighborhoods look very well-kept and have a family-friendly feel. Some have good renovations too. I have not really heard about significant crime in those areas. Good luck.

Bowie, MD is a great town to live in.

I have a relative who owns a home in Bowie and it is great.
Her home is a nice size, the elemantary & middle schools where my little cousins go to are wonderful.

I'm currently looking to purchase a home & I told my realtor if I was to stay in PG County, Upper Marlboro or Bowie would be my main areas to look into.

Thanks for the replies. The schools in Bowie and Upper Marlboro don't look that good on greatschools.com, but some of the other towns look like possibilities.

Actually, Whitehall, Tulip Grove and Heather Hills in Bowie look very good on Schooldigger.com. Rockledge also looks pretty good.

Yes, there seem to be some good elementary schools but the middle and high schools don't look so good, that would be a concern to me.

Okay. According to Schooldigger.com, Samuel Ogle Middle School ranks 101 out of 299 public middle schools in Maryland. Benjamin Tasker Middle School ranks 190 out of 299. Bowie High School ranks 154 out of 221 Maryland public high schools. Ogle actually sounds the best, given Schooldigger's factors from 2009. Bowie High has an advanced academic program (Summit) that I've heard great things about. We'll see what happens with this year's test scores. I will say this: all of those schools are overcrowded. Where I live, my kids are not zoned for any of them, but believe me, given what they are zoned for, Bowie schools could do a lot worse.

I can understand that you have concerns. Good luck with your decision!
