When are we gonna stop glorifying these hoods that we don't own, and never truly owned. No matter how much dope was sold on the block, we never owned that blocked so please stop the madness. I was born in Watts, and raised in SouthSide Jamaica Queens (NYC). I'm sure an self-respecting "dope boy groupies" know about SouthSide, Queens and the lengendary drug kingpins that hale from there (i.e. FEDS magazine, DonDiva and the American Gangster TV series). As a ignorant teenager I looked up to these dudes, but as an adult I realize that they were really pawns to destroy our "hoods" and our "people". Pawns to devalue the "hoods" so that the remaining assets could be bought for pennies on the dollar by outsiders. Nothing wrong with being proud about where you are from, whether it's Beverly Hills or Bed-Stuy (Do or Die), but drug, murder and straight thuggin ain't nothing to be proud of.
This thread is a prime example of DC's subculture that flies under the radar to most people. Posts like "what is uptown" or "dc isn't a rough city" or "dc nightlife sux" goes to show that people living right here in the city are oblivious to the real sh&t that happens each day. The DC that the natives live in and the one that most of these transients live in are night in day. It doesn't have anything to do with economics or education either.
Example: What might look like a normal ice cream truck coming to serve the kids is really the weed man or O' cup. I will tell you what the O' cup is in my next lesson. 9th, 7th, 1st KDY.
"O" cup has been around as long as there have been keg parties, tailgating, house parties, block parties, etc-
I'm glad your so proud of taking credit for helping Mr. Solo Cup sell more plastic red cups filled with cheap liquor to kids-
As an adult if you know the local ice cream truck is pulling shenanigans like that, you should call the police. Yeah that's right, I'm SNITCHING!

I'm not MPD, so I will gladly stay out of it. It would be just my luck to snitch and then my name appears somewhere, now I have a beef. Plus, the police are probably in on it. This is DC.

Sorry bro, but if you don't have a problem with somebody selling dope and drink out of an ice cream truck to kids in your neighborhood, and are scared to speak up against it, your just as bad as the jokers actually selling it-
I am not a fool either, and I also have to keep the safety of my family first in all situations however, some things you have to take a stand on,and that would be one of them-
All I know about the term Uptown, is early-Wale song 'Uptown Roamers'. I may become a victim get mugged soon enough because I am not accustomed to watching my back around skinny-jean wearing, condom-like durags, North Face skiing clothes, and listening to live music out loud. Matter of fact, in Richmond, that is exactly what the hipsters do (replace durag with beanie).
