This is actually (getting back on topic) the fav area of mine as well ecspecially the connection up 14th to U st. I am biking down it to work almost every day.

It's pretty amazing how long ago it was real different. Logan circle was apparantly where all the prostitutes were.

I love da Whole foods and the Studio Theatre, housing, some simple eats. all that stuff... then I head north to some great bars (Ben's Next door, St Ex, Bar Pillar, The Gibson, etc..) and then off to Black Cat or 9:30 for a show maybe! yup gotta love it..

I walked by Monday (6/28) and there was a yellow crime tape near the CVS with a chalk outline of a body. Don't know if someone was murdered there or just found dead. Creepy though and sad. Also, they are remodeling the store. It's very overpriced and not quite what it purports to be. Together Safeway, Trader Joes and Yes satisfy my needs.

Wait, are you implying that being against illegal immigration is considered conservative? If so, I have to ask what is this country coming to? I must be really out of touch.

The people with the craziest ideas on how to handle illegal immigration are usually conservatives. People who suggest things like streamlining the immigration process, providing more work visas and heavily fining companies that hire illegals are moderate and liberal.

Perhaps we should just return to the country's original approach and allow those who want to work the freedom to come here.

I agree, but that original approach has to be modified. We've got things like social security and Medicare. People have to pay into it. Hence why there should be a more streamlined legal immigration process (it took me 1.5 years to get my green card, and I was an average kid with a spotless record. I can't imagine how long it would take a Mexican farmer to get a work visa, let alone a green card). More work visas. And like I said, companies need to be heavily fined if they employ people who are here illegally.

Right now it's practically state-sanctioned exploitation. They pay them less than minimum wage, they don't have protection from OSHA, and I'm pretty sure the companies don't even pay those payroll taxes since these laborers are paid under-the-table. And the government just turns a blind eye to it.
