They should, as a way to fund the lottery, and thus education, to have a form of gambling on when BOTH escalators work at the 12th and G exit. In the past 5 years, perhaps a total of 12 days have both been working at the same time. If you can predict when both work for more than 24 hours at a time, you win a substantial jackpot.
Last week was up in NYC. Took the metro into DC so I could leave my car behind. Yes I noticed a lot of elevators out on the metro. But you know at least there are some elevators. I didn't see a single escalator on their subway. So it could be worse.

Thats because NYC's subway is about 70 years older than ours and its had a lot of money issues over the years. It costs a lot of money to retrofit elevators in stations that old. Some stations do have elevators and ramps though. At the end of the day I'd rather have a system like NY's that runs 24/7 then ours.

NYC subways are right under the street.
