I don't think anyone's done that in this thread.

You're misunderstanding what posters are saying.
No one is shocked that they flock to DC; instead, they are put off by the unearned arrogance of these peepz.

Its also funny how fast people forget that the power and privilege of D.C. is all based on Americans from Florida to Alaska sending in 20% of their hard earned pay.

D.C. wealth is not based on innovation (Apple or Google in Silicon Valley, for example).

It is based solely on millions of 1040 forms.

And even when they get caught doing unethical things, they still seem to think they're "all that". It's unbelievable.

That's an exaggeration. The DC area is much more diversified than it gets credit for. It has one of the largest technology and biotech sectors in the country, lots of companies, law firms, universities, hotels, malls, restaurants, etc., that employ a wide array of people.

And so what if the federal government is the big gorilla here? In spite of its flaws, I am proud of an institution that has been intact and served the country well for 220 years through all the wars and national crises it has faced. As if some private company is going to fix the issues in the nation - that'll be the day.

A) Your first paragraph directly contradicts your second paragraph.

B) Where do you think all of that money comes from for the D.C. economy?
(hint: American Taxpayers)

C)
Quote:
served the country well for 220 years through all the wars and national crises it has faced
-the Feds stood by while American jobs were shipped to other countries
-Polluted rivers and lakes (EPA...where are you?)
-Protecting the World Trade Center from Attack
(after it had been attacked in 1993)
-Invisible Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq
-EZ credit leading to a massive housing bubble
-Katrina response
-Wall Street regulation
-How's that oil well in the Gulf, Mr. Government?

...and those are just some recent examples. Bloated government is a drain on resources and a threat to America's future.

"Served the country well"?

Give me a break!

Thanks for the news that we aren't 100000000000000000000/100000000000000000000.

Have to love the armchair quarterbacks. Thanks chief.

Even if that were the case (which I'm not agreeing with), the American people endorse this government by voting for it. Are you saying the government doesn't represent the people, or maybe we shouldn't have governments at all?
