We will be staying for a week at a place close to the metro stop at U-Street/Cardozo (just south of it). How safe is it to walk from there to Logan Circle? On-line, I found a Whole Foods Market at P Street close to Logan's Circle where I thought we could get some groceries. Or,,, are there any other suggestions where we can buy reasonably priced food close to the Metro station? Any areas we should steer clear of in that vicinity?
I have only walked that route during the day, but have always felt safe walking alone. However, I have walked solo in the U Street area at night and felt safe.
It's perfectly fine. It's a city neighborhood, so if you're used to strip malls it might throw you a little, but it's a very interesting neighborhood worth exploring - theatres, home furnishing stores, nice bars, restaurants and music venues.
This area is great, the last time I heard anything bad about the area is about 5-8 years when the city was talking about installing new benches in the park with dividers so the homeless couldn't sleep on them. The city got aggressive with the homeless in that area after a woman was raped by a homeless man there and wanted to completely rid them out of there after the incident. I'm not sure if there is still a problem with the homeless people in the area, again this was years ago...
People claim that 10-15 years ago Logan Circle was a spot to pick up hookers, I never saw it first hand but this is what I've heard older people say. Nonetheless, it's definitely vibrant and awesome now that they have restored many if not all of the historic homes in that area.
but now its the exact opposite, mostly yuppies and hipsters now.
seriously?
doesnt seem likely.
